This little Silky Terrier is a big dog in a small package. He has won just about everything there is to win in the breed ring and a dog can’t do that without a strong presence.
I choose this piece because it is an example of a study. A study focuses on just the dog and the background is minimal and suggested.
This is an elegant format that I love. It was used often by Maud Earl, my favorite of the early Victorian dog painters. It is also a more economical choice than a fully developed painting.
